Jess Dang, an eclectic designer responsible for global advertising campaigns and charming branding solutions, is always adding new dimensions to her artistic repertoire. Her latest creation – a line of silk scarfs called Elly Travels – is inspired by a trip to India, where Jess met an elephant up close for the first time. Learn more about this diverse designer below.
1. How would you describe your work in three words?
Playful. Bold. Clean.
2. Who is your creative role model?
I have more than one! My role models are my friends who work in the creative industry. They are fashion designers, illustrators, actors, writers, filmmakers—all of whom have a passion for their craft and inspire me every day with the way they interpret the world.
3. If you had an extra hour each day what would you do with it?
Watch more films.
4. What place in the world most inspires you and why?
New York City because there’s never a dull moment.
5. If you could do a different job for a day what would it be and why?
I’d be a food critic for Michelin! I’m a huge foodie at heart and would love to explore all types of 5-star cuisine for a day. I’m sure I’d meet a handful of interesting people, too.
6. What is your favorite homemade gift to give?
Silkscreened posters and cards.
7. What is your favorite object in your home?
A few letterpress wood type blocks that I purchased from a small market in Notting Hill, London.
8. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Dark chocolate is good for you. (PS. Vosges is amazing)
9. What websites do you use for inspiration?

10. When do you consider a piece of your work complete?
It never is.
