Carl Warner

Some people say fluffy clouds look like mashed potatoes, many say the moon is made of cheese, but one man captures these scenes (and so many more) with the actual food others only dream about. When you take a closer look at Carl Warner’s awe-inspiring landscape photographs, you’ll notice they’re really “foodscapes” meticulously constructed out of edible goodies. “It is the realisation that the scene is in fact made of food that brings a smile to the viewer, and for me that’s the best part,” he explains. Sate your appetite for inspiration with Carl’s answers below.

1. How would you describe your work in three words?
For me: Fulfilling, passionate, life affirming.
For the viewer: Humorous, imaginative and inspirational.

2. Who is your creative role model?
God.

3. If you had an extra hour each day what would you do with it?
Probably sleep, but ideally I would give it to the terminally ill.

4. What place in the world most inspires you and why?
Italy, because the Italians live so well, eating and drinking the best food and wine, in the most beautiful of surroundings with such style and passion that makes the rest of the world look bland by comparison.

5. If you could do a different job for a day what would it be and why?
I would play the drums with U2 until I collapsed then drink fine red wine with Bono till the early hours talking rubbish.

6. What is your favorite homemade gift to give?
A wonderful meal.

7. What is your favorite object in your home?
My drum kit.

8. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
“Love your neighbor as yourself”

9. What websites do you use for inspiration?
I only use websites for reference as I’m not short on inspiration……..yet!

10. When do you consider a piece of your work complete?
When people smile at it.
