“Smile.” That’s the best advice Danish painter Malene Langreen ever received. And her large scale, brightly hued works are guaranteed to make you grin. In her most recent exhibition, Malene filled the gallery space with candy colored floor to wall paintings and mirrored columns to create spatial optical illusions, while paying tribute to Danish painter Richard Mortensen. 1. How would you describe your work in three words?
Free open space.

2. Who is your creative role model?
Le Corbusier.

3. If you had an extra hour each day what would you do with it?
Have a walk.

4. What place in the world most inspires you and why?
Berlin is a wonderful place to be for a curious human being.

5. If you could do a different job for a day what would it be and why?
I would be a singing dancer. Why not?

6. What is your favorite homemade gift to give?
A funny knitted hat.

7. What is your favorite object in your home?
The wooden floor.

8. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Smile.

9. What websites do you use for inspiration?
The flow of surfing in cyberspace. Many websites.

10. When do you consider a piece of your work complete?
I will have to recite Murikamo when he was asked when is a book complete, he answered: “It is like sex. You know when it is over”.
