With Paul Rand and Bruno Munari as her creative role models it’s no wonder Italian illustrator Olimpia Zagnoli creates iconic yet simple illustrations. This young artist brings a unique energy and quirky twist to her colorful and smart designs making them all her own. Olimpia recently illustrated the The New York Times’ popular iPhone app, “The Scoop,” with old-fashioned tickets, square taxis and a red, blue, green and orange skyline. Other clients have included The New Yorker, The Guardian, Adidas Originals, Rolling Stone, and GOOD Magazine, to name a few. 1. How would you describe your work in three words?
Orange, red and black.
2. Who is your creative role model?
Paul Rand and Bruno Munari.
3. If you had an extra hour each day what would you do with it?
Yoga on Youtube.
4. What place in the world most inspires you and why?
I really like the rooftops of Brooklyn. I know Brooklyn is overrated these days, but there’s something about the light, the wind and the view up there that really fill my eyes and heart with a special feeling.
5. If you could do a different job for a day what would it be and why?
I’d work on an ice cream truck for sure!
6. What is your favorite homemade gift to give?
Soft stuff with hand-stitched initials on.
7. What is your favorite object in your home?
My great grandmother’s pot holders.
8. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
You can’t make everyone happy.

10. When do you consider a piece of your work complete?
When I look at it and I smile a little bit.
