1. How would you describe your work in three words?
Bio-inspired, emotional, precise.

2. Who is your creative role model?
Neri Oxman, Tibor Kalman — there are too many to name…

3. If you had an extra hour each day what would you do with it?
I would go to the gym, start playing saxophone again, spend more time with my kids…or more likely just sit quietly and sketch more designs!

4. What place in the world most inspires you and why?
Barcelona — climbing up the spires of Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia church at sunset, looking out over the expanse of his organic forms — this is where I was when I decided to become a designer.

5. If you could do a different job for a day what would it be and why?
Neurosurgeon (of course, would require extreme training!); I’d love to work with my hands in that very intricate and delicate fashion

6. What is your favorite homemade gift to give?
A set of my company’s Pedra coasters, wrapped up in an unusual ribbon.  Or a personalized card that I have drawn, especially for my kids.

7. What is your favorite object in your home?
An antique wooden table intricately inlaid with different kinds of wood, with a glass top — it was my (late) father’s

8. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
From my parents when I wanted to take a break from university — “Finish!  It doesn’t matter if this is the ultimate pathway for you, but it is important to complete what you start.”

9. What websites do you use for inspiration?
Ask Nature.

10. When do you consider a piece of your work complete?
When it has been produced by the factory and is neatly wrapped up in its packaging…but even then I often find improvements to make; that is why second production runs are so great.
