1. How would you describe your work in three words?
Lighthearted, Colorful, Playful

2. Who is your creative role model?
I love Maira Kalman. I think she is amazing.

3. If you had an extra hour each day what would you do with it?
Play with my daughter more..then update my website and blog more often!

4. What place in the world most inspires you and why?
Tokyo–because it is where I grew up. Everything feels so familiar and strange at the same time.

5. If you could do a different job for a day what would it be and why?
I would love to be a writer. I wanted to become a writer first, then I discovered that I am more of a visual story teller…(I am not a good writer)

6. What is your favorite homemade gift to give?
I am very ashamed to say I don’t make homemade gifts. I love the idea of it, but can never pull it off because I have no time. When I can, I try to have good friends over and make food and/or dessert for them. (does this count?)

7. What is your favorite object in your home?
Tea cups from Heath Ceramics. Cathy Callahan gave me a set as a gift after working together on a book project. Drinking tea makes me happy.

8. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Be yourself.

9. What websites do you use for inspiration?
I don’t usually go to websites for inspiration, but I might start going to your site from now on!

10. When do you consider a piece of your work complete?
I always go by what my gut tells me. I know it is done when I see it.
