Bryony Gomez-Palacio and Armin Vit

Bryony Gomez-Palacio and Armin Vit co-founded UnderConsideration, a design firm and blog publishing enterprise rolled into one. This duo has launched extraordinary websites like Brand New, Quipsologies, and FPO: For Print Only that each raise dialogue on different areas of design. And in 2007, they formed the Department of Design to serve clients. On top of that, they have co-written and designed four books that are must reads for anyone interested in visual communications: and . See what keeps them going in their 10 ANSWERS below.

1. How would you describe your work in three words?
BGP: Conceptual, organized, relatable.

AV: Simple, bold, wordy.

2. Who is your creative role model?
BGP: The world. I am always on the go making mental notes and taking pictures of things that interest me.

AV: The Internet. Everything that happens on it and around it is enough to keep me on my toes.

3. If you had an extra hour each day what would you do with it?
BGP: Curl up with a good book, in a quiet house.

AV: Watch all the stuff backed up on my DVR.

4. What place in the world most inspires you and why?
BGP: My three-year-old’s mind. Call it a cliché, but it is amazing to rediscover the world through a very perceptive and sensitive child.

AV: Wherever my computer happens to be at the moment. My inspiration is getting stuff out there in the world having other people react to it.

5. If you could do a different job for a day what would it be and why?
BGP: Something I try to keep going no matter how busy we are: artistic projects with kids (from 2-15).

AV: Garbage truck loader. I bet the cardio and strength workout I would get would be awesome. Plus you get to be outside, get to know your neighborhood, and you don’t have to worry if your deodorant stopped working.

6. What is your favorite homemade gift to give?
BGP: Tons, but my current favorite is the one Maya (our three-year-old) and I made for family members this x-mas. Since she is learning to write, she wrote everyone’s names on funky fabrics which we then embroidered “together” rather colorfully.

AV: The ones that my wife makes and puts my name on them.

7. What is your favorite object in your home?
BGP: The coffee table. A lot happens on the coffee table which is often covered in milk, paint, paper, scraps, crumbs, books, toys…

AV: Toilet. No further comment.

8. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
BGP: Go with your gut.

AV: “It’s all relative.”

9. What websites do you use for inspiration?
BGP: The list of sites I would love to visit regularly is way too long, which means I never have time to actually see them.

AV: Far too many to list. But for example: Cosas Visuales, BuzzFeed, Design You Trust, Svpply, Draplin, Motionographer…

10. When do you consider a piece of your work complete?
BGP: When the final meeting is set to start.

AV: When someone or something demands that it be done. You can always edit or iterate, it’s best to just get work done and see what happens, if you brood too much over it it will never get done.
