His charming creations have propelled him to be one of today’s most prolific and acclaimed illustrators. Gary created the cover art and inside illustrations for Aimee Mann’s latest album @#%&*! Smilers, which earned a 2009 Grammy Award Nomination for Best Package Design. And he just released his first children’s book entitled . 1. How would you describe your work in three words?
Funny, serious and Awww.
2. Who is your creative role model?
Andy Warhol.
3. If you had an extra hour each day what would you do with it?
Draw some more.
4. What place in the world most inspires you and why?
My studio. It’s where I do my best ideas and I love the energy in the space.
5. If you could do a different job for a day what would it be and why?
Lighthouse keeper. I’d like the view.
6. What is your favorite homemade gift to give?
Small screen prints.
7. What is your favorite object in your home?
My couch.
8. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Relax…..
9. What websites do you use for inspiration?
Drawger.
10. When do you consider a piece of your work complete?
When my hand screams, “NO, DON’T TOUCH IT ANYMORE!”. It never says it quietly, either.
