When Matt W. Moore shows his true colors, he does so on murals, clothing, bicycles, and well, pretty much everything. That’s because this immensely talented artist uses countless hues on innumerable surfaces. His signature “Vectorfunk” style combines geometric shapes with bold colors in an array of patterns that are charmingly eye-catching – or eye-adorning in the case of his Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses line, which sold out almost instantly. Whether on fonts or t-shirts or guitars or walls, Matt is making everything more colorful, including today’s 10 ANSWERS.
1. How would you describe your work in three words?
Abstract, Geometric, Vibrant.
2. Who is your creative role model?
MC Escher for his brilliance and work ethic. Picasso for his vision and business savvy. Sagmeister for his wit and work/life balance ethos.
3. If you had an extra hour each day what would you do with it?
I stretch days quite far already. I’d use my 25th hour for taking further bike rides and dog walks.
4. What place in the world most inspires you and why?
My travels to Spain, Portugal, and Brazil inspired me a lot. The vibrant color palettes and tile mosaics are amazing.
5. If you could do a different job for a day what would it be and why?
I feel like my job is different everyday and I am grateful for this. That said, I’ve always admired musicians and composers.
6. What is your favorite homemade gift to give?
I did some hand-painted tees last Summer with spraypaint. Those were fun and folks love them!
7. What is your favorite object in your home?
My bookshelves are really important to me. But our king sized bed is definitely my favorite.
8. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Just Do It.
9. What websites do you use for inspiration?
I surf a healthy list of websites. Some favorites: PSFK, ROJO-Magazine, ButDoesItFloat, Graffuturism, and 12ozProphet.
10. When do you consider a piece of your work complete?
Once it looks better than I had imagined it would, it’s a good time to take a photo, or save a version, and get a good night’s sleep. If it is still as exciting to me the next day it’s a wrap.
