Byggstudio

Hanna Nilsson is one half of the design duo behind the multi-format Stockholm-based Byggstudio. Through Byggstudio, Hanna works on a wide range of projects, such as creating product displays out of old porcelain-factory furniture and depicting DJs through portraits composed solely of accessories. The studio’s uncommon two- and three-dimensional approach to design has received widespread praise, most recently by the Kolla! awards its home country of Sweden. Get inspired by Hanna’s boundless imagination in today’s 10 ANSWERS.

1. How would you describe your work in three words?
Friendly, curious, varied.

2. Who is your creative role model?
Some musician probably. Music is the ultimate expression. And the late designer John Melin from Sweden.

3. If you had an extra hour each day what would you do with it?
Have a longer breakfast and for sure studying – taking some kind of course and reading.

4. What place in the world most inspires you and why?
Spending time in the countryside! Because it puts work and city life in a perspective that is very energizing.

Except from that I´d say Versailles, mountains, museums in general, book stores and libraries. Places of history.

5. If you could do a different job for a day what would it be and why?
A clam-farmer, a dancer, a restaurant-owner, a diplomat, a journalist, a singer.
It would be nice to try a job that doesn’t involve computers that much, a physical, creative and sociable job with some action.

6. What is your favorite homemade gift to give?
A vegetable from our allotment, like a zucchini or a bag of potatoes.

7. What is your favorite object in your home?
My books and porcelain figures and table ware that my grandmother made. And the bed is very nice as well.

8. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
To believe in yourself and being true and kind to people is a very good combination I think.

9. What websites do you use for inspiration?
mostly!

10. When do you consider a piece of your work complete?
When there is no time left to improve it, when deadline is passed :)
