1. How would you describe your work in three words?
Observational, Crisp + Colorful
2. Who is your creative role model?
It really ranges. On one side of the scale there’s Simon Doonan and on the other there’s my grandfather. I’ve learned the art of improvisation from both.
3. If you had an extra hour each day what would you do with it?
In all honesty, I’d probably spend it working on Pattern Pulp.
4. What place in the world most inspires you and why?
Paris! Every time I go, I’m inspired to create new work, not just write + critique.
5. If you could do a different job for a day what would it be and why?
I think it’d be fun to be a casting director for a day. I love meeting new people and seeing how their quirks fit into the larger scheme of life’s puzzle.
6. What is your favorite homemade gift to give?
Illustrative portraits. It’s fun to snap my friends and then give them a homemade surprise later on.
7. What is your favorite object in your home?
Two $1 paintings I bought at a street market in Luang Prabang.
8. What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Age is just a number, all that matters is how curious you are.

10. When do you consider a piece of your work complete?
Over the years I’ve learned to just trust my gut. Sometimes I’ll return to a piece, though it’s usually because new information’s entered the picture.
